Settlementagreement.co.uk was launched in 2013 by a national journalist.

Settlementagreement.co.uk is the UK’s only consumer website, founded by a national journalist to provide free-to-access guides on settlement agreements.

Over the past thirteen years, this site has helped thousands of people understand settlement agreements. It also works with specialist employment solicitors to help everyone get the right advice, just when they need it.

Founder and editor, Joanne O’Connell has written about consumer issues for the national press for over twenty years. She’s written for the Guardian, the Observer, the Times, the Telegraph, the Daily Mail, the Daily Express, and others. She also occasionally appears on television and radio.

Joanne was inspired to set up the site, after her own experience of having been made redundant from a national newspaper. During the process, she realised how difficult it was to understand a settlement agreement (which used to be called a compromise agreement). All that jargon! All those long-winded terms and conditions!

Setting up as a freelance journalist for the national media, Joanne continued to hear about people struggling to navigate the redundancy process. So, in 2013, she made the decision to set up a site, with her own money and time, dedicated to offering free guides and practical tools for employees and helping them to access the right legal advice.

The site has gone from strength-to-strength and continues with its core mission of ensuring everyone can access jargon-free expert guides, and professional advice from qualified employment solicitors.
